About the Food Security Plan
In early 2017, MCFC co-led the creation of the Montgomery County Executive’s 5-Year Food Security Plan (www.montgomerycountymd.gov/foodsecurity), which outlines the path towards building a Montgomery County in which all people have access to safe, sufficient, and nutritious food, with dignity. The Plan (FSP) offers comprehensive background data on food security, demographics, poverty, income, employment, transportation, public health, benefits program participation, and the wide range of existing food assistance resources on the Federal, State and County level. The FSP also offers extensive recommendations to guide future research, analysis, funding, and policy actions to work toward enhancing food security in Montgomery County.
We seek a self-motivated, skilled, and goal-oriented Food Security Associate (FSA) dedicated to coordinating the Food Council’s FSP implementation initiatives. This is a 12-month contract position with the possibility of extension dependent on funding. The position requires a commitment of 37 hours per week with some required evening and weekend meetings. The FSA will report to the Food Council Executive Director.
Responsibilities for the Food Security Associate position include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
Home-based within Washington Metro Region with regular travel to meeting and event sites within Montgomery County, MD. The successful candidate will be expected to provide their own computer with Internet and printer, mobile telephone for communication, and transportation. Access to an automobile is recommended but not required. The work hours are flexible with the exception of meetings and events. Pay is at an hourly rate, comparable to other small nonprofits and contingent on experience.
To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume to email@example.com by August 31st with the subject line “Food Security Associate Application.” Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with a goal of hiring as soon as possible. The Food Council expects to hold interviews and make a hiring decision by early October 2017, with a start date by late Fall 2017. No phone calls please.
