Biochar amendments added to compost have been shown to reduce N loss to volatilization. We are looking for a soil scientist to measure these gaseous emissions from field scale compost windrows with and without biochar amendments at West Marin Compost in Nicasio, CA. In this experiment we will measure not only the N content in the compost before, during, and after compost process with and without biochar amendment, but to directly gather emissions data as well. Measurement equipment will need to be provided.
Pacific Biochar is a manufacturer and distributor of biochar products and is involved in ongoing research projects in California soils.
West Marin Compost utilizes municipal green waste, agricultural residues, and manures in the creation of various compost products.
The Lexicon of Sustainability will be documenting this research process.
