About HAFA

HAFA is a social justice organization that is committed to advancing the
economic, social and cultural prosperity of Hmong American farmers through
advocacy, economic development, capacity building and research. More
specifically, HAFA uses an organizing approach to work with its members and
other farmers in the Hmong community to access land, equipment, capital and
trainings so that they can improve their farming operations, and thereby, lift
their families out of poverty. As a member based organization, HAFA was
started by and is led by Hmong American farmers.

 

About the Position

HAFA is seeking to hire a Farm Administrator to assist with its Business
Development, Value Added and Training Programs. Ideal candidate must be able
to start immediately.
The Capacity Building Organizer will be responsible for overseeing HAFA’s
premiere Business Development, Value Added and Training Program. 

 

Responsibilities

  • assist with events on the Farm and some Farm operations

Business Development

  • Develop and coordinate farm business management trainings for farmers
    that include but are not limited to best business practices, writing business
    plans, record keeping, filing schedule F forms etc.
  • Coordinate financial counseling and individual development accounts
    for farmers
  • Assist farmers with signing up for crop insurance, collecting yields
    and filing loss claims
  • Assist farmers with purchasing equipment and accessing loans
  • Conduct annual crop maps with farmers
  • Work with farmers to write business plans and do business planning
  • Coordinate and maintain strategic partnerships
  • Comply with grant deliverables
  • Maintaining records for reporting.

Value Added

  • Develop and coordinate value added trainings for farmers and their
    children that include but are not limited to rules and regulations, marketing
    and branding, food science and recipe creation, financial management etc.
  • Coordinate financial counseling and individual development accounts
    for farmers and their family members
  • Support farmers and their family members around kitchen access,
    equipment purchase and micro-loans
  • Assist in the wealth accumulation among multi-generational family
    members
  • Monitor related activities
  • Coordinate and maintain strategic partnerships
  • Complying with grant deliverables
  • Maintaining records for reporting.

Trainings

  • Provide the administrative support behind the training program
    including but not limited to:
    • Developing the annual training schedule
    • Contacting speakers, confirming availability and finalizing dates and
      materials
    • Following up with speaker invoicing
    • Aiding in the creation of pre and post surveys and pre and post
      evaluations
    • Aiding in the creation of fliers, outreach to farmers, making
      confirmation calls and sign in sheets etc. to turnout farmers to the trainings
  • Develop and standardize training curriculum and their supporting
    documents
  • Coordinate and maintain strategic partnerships
  • Comply with grant deliverables
  • Maintaining records for reporting

 

Requirements
The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and outgoing with excellent
interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. He or she must be
detail oriented, mature, be willing to work hard and committed to excellent
quality of work. HAFA operates in a fast paced manner and the ideal candidate
must be able to work alongside other staff members, while working
independently and under tight deadlines. He or she must have experience in the
farm business management industry or community development work and be
knowledgeable of Microsoft and other office related software programs. Some
evening and weekend work may be required. Ability to fluently speak Hmong and
familiarity with Hmong culture and customs is critical. HAFA is especially
interested in candidates who have worked on farms or in farmers markets.
