About the University

About the Department
The department is one of five academic units within the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA), which also includes the state’s Agricultural Experiment Station. The ANFS faculty consists of 30 researchers, educators, and specialists dedicated to improving health and well-being through productive and sustainable agricultural practices, resilient and diverse landscapes, and equitable food systems. The ANFS currently serves 450 undergraduate majors through its Animal Science, Nutrition, Equine Studies, and Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems programs; as well as 30 graduate students and interns through a variety of departmental and college-wide programs. Current areas of faculty research span a diversity of fields including animal and plant sciences, plant breeding and applied genomics, dairy and human nutrition, and their intersections (http://colsa.unh.edu/anfs).
About the Position
The role of the Chair is to function as an effective academic leader and vital member of the college’s leadership team while helping to guide realization of the university, college and department goals. This will include direction of visioning and strategic planning processes of the department; advancing and shaping its multi-faceted teaching and research programs; providing professional, intellectual, and administrative leadership; and stewarding the daily operations of the unit. The chair is also responsible for evaluating faculty and staff, assigning workloads, allocating resources, and communicating between the department and the college. The chair is expected to teach one course per year, conduct research and serve the University and profession.
We seek a dynamic leader with a record of significant scholarly research that aligns with the interdisciplinary mission of the department and demonstrated excellence in teaching/mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate must hold a PhD. in a relevant field, have strong communication and interpersonal skills commensurate with the capacity to lead a diverse unit of faculty students, and staff; be team-oriented; understand and appreciate the integrated teaching, research, and service components of our land-grant mission; and have a compelling vision of the future of agriculture, nutrition, and food systems sciences in higher education.
