Big Green is a national nonprofit dedicated to building a healthier future for kids across America. We have always had big goals - our vision is to build Learning Gardens in every low-income school across the country, bringing real food to millions of kids every day. Big Green Learning Gardens are dynamic outdoor classrooms and productive edible gardens, installed in underserved schools around the country. We help kids dig into their education, thrive with real, nutritious foods and healthy habits, and become active participants in strengthening their communities.
The Program Assistant's primary responsibility is to support Big Green's Program and help carry out the Edible Garden Initiative by working with schools' Garden Teams to ensure they have the skills, materials, personnel and confidence to successfully grow vegetables and teach in their Learning Gardens. This includes primarily working with Big Green's Garden Educators and help lead planting and harvest days at schools with teachers and students. This is an opportunity for individuals interested in working in schools, in the nonprofit sector, and sustainable food sector, while making a positive impact on developing a real food culture in communities.
