About this Role:

The Sustainable Food Production Systems Lab in the Horticulture and Natural Resources department at Kansas State University is hiring a farm manager/research assistant to manage the Willow Lake Student Farm and assist with research activities at the farm and within the program. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the student farm, including maintenance of crops grown for research and sale, upkeep of the facilities and equipment, and facilitating volunteer and student work at the farm. Additionally, this position will assist with lab and greenhouse research, as well as help facilitate instructional lab activities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. in Horticulture, Agroecology, Soil Science,or related field required
  • And 3-5 years of relevant experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Horticulture, Agroecology, Soil Science, or related field preferred.
  • Experience managing small diversified farm operation. Experience with replicated research and publication of research results.
  • Experience growing fruit and/or vegetable crops, and familiarity with hand and powered farm tools and tractors.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and accomplish tasks necessary for the function and long-term success of a small, diversified farm.


Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Pesticide Applicators License within 6 months of employment


Salary Range: $42,090-$65,230
