About Transplanting Traditions Community Farm:

Transplanting Traditions Community Farm (TTCF) envisions a world in which all people have access to healthy, affordable food, land, education, satisfying work and a space to celebrate culture and build strong, resilient communities. Our mission is to provide refugee adults and youth access to land, health food, and agricultural education and economic opportunities. The farm provides a culturally relevant community space for families to come together, build healthy communities and continue agricultural traditions in the Piedmont of North Carolina. TTCF works specifically with the community of refugees from Burma that live in Orange County.


Position Summary:

The Associate Director will ensure the continued success and growth of Transplanting Traditions Community Farm (TTCF) by embodying our organizational values, while simultaneously prioritizing the input of the community we serve. We are seeking a visionary who understands how our work is inextricably connected to food and social justice, refugee and immigrant rights, and how that big picture relates to the day-to-day at the farm.  We are seeking someone who can and is grounded in non-profit management and fundraising and can work collaboratively with staff while building strong partnerships across many sectors.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Stay up to date on developments and trends in the related fields (non profit, food access, refugee and immigrant policy, and youth engagement).
  • Communicate the vision and mission and cultivate positive relationships with local and national stakeholders and community partners
  • Leverage opportunities for collective impact; develop strategic partnerships with community organizations to maximize social and political impact.
  • Work with Executive Director (ED) and Board of Directors (BOD) to evaluate organizational strategic goals and programmatic adherence to the mission
  • Leverage strong organizational skills to oversee thorough and accurate organizational records of fundraising efforts.
  • Engage with participant farmers to support culturally appropriate program design, implementation and evaluation
  • Support the implementation and development of programming in collaboration with the staff, participants and BOD.
  • Contribute to an encouraging, open, and collaborative work environment by demonstrating professionalism, transparency and upholding TTCF values.
  • Facilitate collaborative and inclusive leadership with staff and participants.
  • Maintain consistent and transparent financial, human resource, and administrative systems throughout the organization.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a strategic long-term fundraising plan in collaboration with the ED and Board, which may include grant writing, donor appeals, special events, and earned income.
  • Assist in developing short and long-term strategies to ensure programs that advance the organization’s mission, vision and values. Collaborate with ED to measure impact and success through regular monitoring and evaluation of grant-funded programming to maintain donor compliance and ensure participant needs are met.
  • Develop, maintain, and support the active engagement of the Board of Directors. 
  • Support ED with planning and execution of events and meetings, including external conferences, internal retreats and staff/board meetings 
  • Support human resources needs in collaboration with the ED which may include staff hiring, recruiting, orientating, management/supervision, evaluating, and facilitating professional development opportunities.
  • Review and keep current all organization policies and procedures, according to nonprofit best practices, and work in collaboration with the ED to ensure organizational compliance and implementation.
  • Assist staff in ensuring fiscal and organizational standard operating practices are followed and maintained.


Position Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of executive leadership or higher-level management experience or progressive experience in the nonprofit sector or an equivalent sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in nonprofit administration, preferably in human resources, finance, resource development, data and grant/project management.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and ability to foster positive team environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with diverse individuals from many different backgrounds.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, able to shift styles to fit the needs of a wide range of cultures, people, and organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with key stakeholders including minority support agencies, funders (both institutional and individual), and community partners.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • High level of organization, work efficiency, attention to detail and prioritization skills.
  • Love of continuous learning, a great sense of humor and humility


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior understanding of and/or experience with the immigration process and resettlement experience and/or sustainable agricultural.
  • Connections with or prior work with national foundations funding minority support initiatives and/or food systems programming.
  • Experience developing or managing a creative and entrepreneurial approach to revenue generation and diversification.
  • Passion for and strategic understanding of food systems change, food justice and local agriculture.



Salary range of $45,000 to $55,000 based on experience. Full-time, exempt position, working an average of 40 hours per week. Work-life balance is a strong organizational value, however the seasonal nature of the organization or project deadlines sometimes requires longer work weeks or weekend work. Generous PTO, 15 paid holidays, and a flexible, family-friendly schedule.
