Workshops related to food systems and/or community development.

Together, farmers and others will share in discussion of successful (and unsuccessful) practices and approaches to finding balance between the work of farming and life off the farm or at least off the clock. How do passion, values, ideals, goals and financial security for the farm mesh with those of family and loved ones, and our own personal limits? A look at how and why we make the decisions we do and what we can learn from eachother and understand about the farm and family life we choose.

Sean Dembrosky of Edible Acres will lead a very hands on workshop showing participants strategies and techniques for taking ‘weedy’ areas of shrubs, brambles, tall grasses, young trees, etc., and converting it into permanent raised beds on contour that can be incredibly productive.  Using permaculture principles and only hand tools, a group of people can convert ‘waste’ spaces into amazing production that can grow soil rapidly, hold onto moisture in the landscape and avoid using costly, dangerous and noisy equipment to do the work.

Join us as we take an abandoned slope and help guide it into the foundation of a food forest for the Groundswell Center Incubator Farm!

Quality Certification Services will be holding multiple food safety courses throughout Florida between January and May 2018. Sign up today to ensure a spot near you!

The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule has established minimum standards for the safe growing, harvesting, packing, and holding of fruits and vegetables grown for human consumption. In order to help growers understand the Produce Safety Rule and how it may affect their farm, Quality Certification Services (an accredited organic and food safety certification agency) is offering grower specific trainings throughout the state of Florida.

The Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training Course provides a foundation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and co-management information, FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirements, and details on how to develop a farm food safety plan. The PSA Grower Training Course satisfies the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement outlined in §112.22(c) that requires ‘At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.’

Please see below for upcoming training dates throughout the state of Florida. You can find additional information about the course along with registration information online at http://www.qcsinfo.org/training/.
