2020 Northeast Regional Permaculture Convergence

It has been five years since we gathered at the MOFGA Fairgrounds in Unity, Maine for the last northeast regional convergence. We miss the excitement, energy, and camaraderie that a regional event brings and we know that you do too. We’ve heard you asking “So when’s the next convergence?” so we are hard at work for 2020!

Summer may seem far away but the Convergence date is fast approaching. Prices increase on May 1st and ticket sales end on July 1st so get your tickets and camping spot before time runs out! A ticket gets you attendance to all three days of the Convergence, two nights of camping, meals, and an included one-year PAN membership or membership extension. Tickets and space are limited so act today and spread the word!

Dig Deep: A Conference for Growers

DIG DEEP: A CONFERENCE FOR GROWERS

Registration link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dig-deep-a-conference-for-growers-tickets-110046361630

Join Tarrant Area Food Bank and the Tarrant County Food Policy Council for a VIRTUAL gardening conference this year. You can tune in from the comfort of your own home for live and pre-recorded sessions on a wide variety of gardening topics.

Growers from across North Texas will come together virtually in the spirit of education and passion for what the soil can produce. Dig Deep: A Conference for Growers provides a unique opportunity for growers from different fields to share experiences, knowledge and resources. All conference topics are suitable for beginner and intermediate level growers.

Whether your goal is to feed your family, share with our hungry neighbors, or enter the marketplace, this will be the learning opportunity for you. No grower in North Texas will want to miss this.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore three unique tracks focused on home, community and market gardening.

Home Gardening

Home and backyard gardening continue gaining popularity in North Texas, especially during the current health crisis. Our long growing seasons are great for producing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. The knowledge and generosity of community partners make growing food crops an accessible option for many people.

Community Gardening

More community gardens are built every year across our region. These gardens are working to serve the immediate needs of their communities. Learn how to start one in your own community as well as best practices for operations and planning for expansion.

Market Gardening

Passionate growers and chefs from all over North Texas are making great strides in bringing fresh, local produce to consumers. When farmers and chefs work together to coordinate their efforts, everybody wins. Join in on this conversation with market gardeners, ranchers, local producers and chefs.

VIRTUAL FORMAT

Virtual conferences are relatively new concepts in the gardening world, but they are necessary for the health and safety of our community during this current pandemic.

What you can expect from this virtual Dig Deep conference:

  • Friday, July 24th – Live Zoom Sessions
  • Attendees will choose from 4-5 live sessions to attend throughout the day.
  • Sessions will be hosted through Zoom and will require separate registrations.
  • The schedule for these sessions and information on registration can be found at www.tarrantcountyfoodpolicycouncil.org/dig-deep-conference
  • Saturday, July 25th – Pre-Recorded Sessions
  • Registered attendees will receive access to a whole library of pre-recorded video sessions on a variety of gardening topics.
  • Session information and speaker bios will be available to attendees so they can choose which sessions they would like to attend.
  • This video library of pre-recorded sessions will be available for one week after the virtual conference ends so attendees can view content on their own schedule.

Other Ways to Participate Virtually

  • Dig Deep Conference Facebook Group
  • Registered attendees will be invited to participate in a Facebook group made just for the conference. Here, conference-goers can share garden pictures, ask questions, give advice and interact with other gardeners from our area.
  • Zoom Breakout Sessions – Saturday
  • Conference attendees will have the option to participate in Zoom breakout sessions hosted on Saturday. These sessions will be geared towards specific gardening topics to help continue the discussion after watching the pre-recorded content.
  • Virtual Conference Lunch
  • Join other conference attendees for a virtual lunch. Everyone interested in attending will hop on a Zoom meeting during lunch to share what they are preparing with their garden or farm produce. Cooking demonstration videos, recipes and ingredient lists will be published before the conference for inspiration and a sense of community as we all eat together.
  • Virtual Vendor Tables
  • Local and national organizations will be providing information and links to resources, products and coupons. Visit these virtual vendor tables for more information on the resources in our area!
  • Virtual Farm and Garden Tours
  • Learn about local farms and gardens through these virtual tours. See what everyone is growing and pick out a few places you want to visit in person someday.
  • Suggestions for Further Learning
  • While many of us like to learn through videos and watching hands-on demonstrations, it is also great to have a good list of written resources. We will provide a list of recommended blog posts, books, and articles so attendees can continue to learn after watching the video sessions.
