Protect Organic Integrity: Strong Rules Support Farmers, Grow Markets, and Build Consumer Trust

In recent years, USDA has finalized critical rules to prevent fraud and close loopholes that ensure a level playing field for organic farms and businesses. But these hard-won gains—and the future of the organic program—are at risk if the regulations that farms and businesses rely on are rolled back.

Earlier this month, USDA rescinded the Organic Market Development Rule, a measure designed to create more market opportunities for farmers. This decision sets a troubling precedent—organic farms and businesses supported this rule and did not ask for its removal.

We're calling on Congress to exercise its oversight authority and ensure USDA fully implements and enforces these vital rules. Strong organic standards are essential to the success of family farms, the vitality of rural economies, and the continued growth of the organic sector.
