Call Senators: We Need A Farm Bill for All Farmers
Action Alert Released by the National Farm to School Network on June 24, 2026:Congress is writing the 2026 Farm Bill now -- and the discussion draft released by Senate Agriculture Committee Chair John Boozman on June 23 fails to meaningfully address some of the biggest nutrition and agriculture challenges facing our food system.
The bill offers a few bright spots, including the first-ever authorization that would allow Congress to allocate money for local food purchases to be distributed to schools and other community programs. However, it misses the opportunity to provide mandatory funding or to increase funding for important local food programs.
The most glaring issue with this proposed Farm Bill is its abdication of responsibility on SNAP, our nation's largest nutrition safety net. In mere months since the passage of HR 1 in 2025 made the deepest cuts to SNAP in the program's history, more than 4 million people have lost access to SNAP. This sharp decline affects children who will not only risk going hungry at home, but lose access to school meals through direct certification and the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
Raise your voice today: Tell your Senators to stand strong for the Farm Bill that we need.
