About Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program:

MCHPP served its first meal in 1983 out of the basement of a local church. Over the next few decades, the support of MCHPP grew and the client base continued to increase. In February of 1995 we received our 501(c)(3) status, and in 2003 we built our current facility. Over the years we have added programs and increased service hours to continue meeting the growing need we have seen in the community. We now offer nine different programs out of our building in Brunswick, some of which have satellite locations throughout the mid coast region.

 

Position Summary:

MCHPP is looking for a dedicated individual with strong interpersonal skills to join our team. Ideal candidates will enjoy working collaboratively with other driven nonprofit professionals in a dynamic workplace. Applicants should have a desire for personal and professional growth a dedication towards improving the midcoast community of Maine.

The Food Bank Associate will work alongside the Food Bank Coordinator to support the day to day operations of MCHPP’s Food Bank. Ideal candidates will have the additional capacity to assist the Food Bank Coordinator in logistics planning, improving procedures, and developing efficiencies within our agency.  The ability to work in a fast paced environment, to problem solve, and be flexible are all important qualities to be successful in this position. Safe driving, professional communication skills, and dependability are essential. The Food Bank Associate may also participate in other MCHPP operational assignments, and the position will be exposed to non-profit professional development opportunities over time.

 

Position Responsibilities:

The Food Bank Associate is expected to work alongside the Food Bank Coordinator in the everyday operations of the Food Bank.  Duties include:

  • Manage operations of inventory and flow for MCHPP’s food storage building.
  • Supervise and train volunteer.
  • Assist in organizing, arranging, tracking and inventorying food for distribution through MCHPP’s programs
  • Assist in coordinating food drives, government pick-ups and other special MCHPP events
  • Assist in planning of logistics and helping develop efficiencies in the Food Bank while maintaining safety and best practices
  • Make off site pickups of food as needed using MCHPP vehicles (ranging in size from small van to refrigerated box truck)
  • Serve as Food Bank Coordinator when needed or when coordinator is unavailable
  • All other duties as assigned

Additional requirements:

  • Valid ME driver’s license with a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carriers.
  • Background check required
  • Must be able to obtain a DOT medical card and qualify for re-certifications.
  • Ability to use GPS, and hands free cell phones.
  • Regularly lift/move up to 30 pounds, occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds and rarely lift/move 70-100 pounds.

 

 

Compensation:

This position is considered full time in terms of MCHPP benefits, with the expectation that the Food Bank Associate work 35 hours per week.  $13-$15 per hour, dependent upon skills and experience.
